Baby Blanket Knitting - How To Make A Very Special Present


 

One thing everyone likes to do is to curl up on a bed, or an overstuffed chair or sofa with a blanket that's soft, warm and cuddly.  What better way to get your blanket than to make it yourself.  If you're a beginner knitter who's gotten then hang of the the fundamentals, baby blank knitting is easy.

If you search on the Internet using baby, blanket, knitting as your keywords, you'll come up with several sources of patterns. Some will be more challenging than others, but with a little patience, you'll find the best pattern available to start your baby blanket knitting.

Actually, there are so many different patterns and styles. So finding something appropriate for your skill levels won't be difficult.

Here's an easy (and free!!) pattern found on line.  It's a simple repetition of stitches.  If you're successful using this pattern to try your hand at baby lancet knitting, you can continue on other projects.  If you do like the textured pattern, you can expand the stitches to knit any size blanket.

Materials Needed:

6 - 6 oz skeins (enough yarn to knit a blanket approximately 38 x 48 inches). Use either a bulky yard, or buy 12 skeins of a worsted weight and hold them together, knitting as if it was on ski. US Size 13 circular needle, 29 inches long Tapestry Needle.

Instructions:

Slip all stitches purlwise
yif - yarn in front
yib - yarn in back

Directions:

Cast on 120 stitches (to adjust size, choose a number of stitches that are evenly divisible by 6).

Do not connect them in the round. Knit back and forth. Do it as you would on straight needles.

Row 1: *P3, sl 1, yif, yib, K1, yif, sl 1. Then repeat from
* to the end of the row

Row 2:
*P3, K3, repeat from
* to the end of the row

Row 3: *P3, K1, yif, sl 1, yib, K1, repeat from
* to the end of the row


Keep repeating these 3 rows until blanket is desired length.  Bind Off on a Row 2 in pattern. Weave in Ends.

There are many patters for baby blanket knitting available so, it may take you a while to find the exact one you want.  Styles, color combinations, textures and patters all vary for each ability level.
