Cheap Baby Furniture - How To Save Money
If you need nursery furniture, you're in for a rude awakening - cheap baby furniture is hard to find. In addition, add to that all the upcoming bills surrounding having a baby and you can see when parents do go into a financial panic.
There are ways to find cheap baby furniture for your baby that is safe, attractive and of good quality.
1. Dresser
You can always find a dresser at a garage or house sale. If the dresser is bigger than you need, that's not a problem. Drawers that you're not using can be used for storage. If you don't like the color, a coat of non toxic paint can change that.
A dresser is something that you can often find at a garage sale. Also, you may want to consider getting a larger dresser your baby can grow into and continue using well into childhood. Small baby-only dressers (like everything baby related) tend to be more expensive. Also, don't worry about buying a used dresser. As long as all the parts are working, old dressers can easily be fixed up with some paint.
2. Crib
Every new mom dreams of putting her new baby in a bassinet. Unfortunately bassinets are expensive, so unless you have a family hand-me-down, stick only with buying a crib.
When you do start looking for a crib, make sure you keep an eye out for cribs that convert to toddler beds. This way you save money and are prepared for when the little one is ready to sleep on a bed.
Again, you shouldn't worry about buying a used crib. The key is to make sure every part on the crib is in working order and that nothing is damaged. You should also lookup the crib model on the Internet to ensure there hasn't been a recall on it. If it checks out on both fronts, it should be safe for your new baby.
3. Changing Table
Getting a changing table is great, but it's only used for the first one to two years. It is perfectly acceptable to buy a changing pad and use it on the floor. Sometimes you can even put a changing pad on top of the dresser you purchased, temporarily converting it to be a changing table. Just be sure to find instructions online for doing this safely.
If you really want a changing table, again, you can find really good ones at garage sales. Just like buying a used dresser, often times a fresh coat of paint is all it will take to make the changing table look good as new.
